About the show:
A long-running commercial success on the West End and Broadway comes to Geva! The intrepid thespians of the Cornley Drama Society are more or less ready to raise the curtain on the grandest production the village has ever seen, The Murder at Haversham Manor—until things go from bad to calamitous. There’s an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that won’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines)—and that’s only the first act. It’s nothing you want in a show—and everything you want in a comedy!

“We’re so delighted to be partnering with Ben Hanna, cara hinh, and Indiana Repertory Theatre on this laugh-out-loud production of The Play That Goes Wrong! I’m looking forward to launching our 2025-26 Season here in Rochester with this gloriously funny production!”
– Elizabeth Williamson, Artistic Director
“In my 25-odd years as a critic, I have never seen anything as gloriously, chaotically funny as the Indiana Repertory Theatre’s staging of ‘The Play That Goes Wrong.'”
“It was a mess, and it was beautiful.”
“Throughout, this is a masterpiece of mayhem. The non-stop hilarity surpasses even favorite farces like ‘Noises Off,’ with chaos comparable to Monty Python or The Marx Brothers at their manic best.”

Geva Theatre’s Literary Department seeks to provide our audience with deeper appreciation and engagement with the work on our stages through a series of pre-show discussions with Prologue and post-show discussions with our Sunday Salons and Geva Insights. Featuring thought leaders, experts, and community members, Geva Insights explores the themes of each play and fosters meaningful dialogue. Geva is proud to offer affinity performances at select discussions and partner with community members and local organizations to explore the themes in each of Geva’s productions.
Literary Manager & Artistic Associate Fiona Kyle will be joined in Geva’s lobby by local Dramaturg and Arts Administrator, Claudia Nolan, for a discussion about The Play that Goes Wrong and how place plays a role in farce.
Claudia Nolan is a dramaturg and theater-maker particularly interested in new play development, as well as multicultural and international theater. She received her MFA in Dramaturgy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where her thesis focused on cross-cultural fairytales and the importance of place in performance. She has worked at Geva Theatre Center, Premiere Stages, McCarter Theatre, New Georges, HERE, MuCCC, and Bread and Water Theatre. She currently works with The Classics Company and the Artist Communities Alliance.
This talkback is FREE and open to the public. Discussion begins roughly at 5pm, depending on the performance runtime. Tickets to the September 27th performance of The Play That Goes Wrong are recommended, but not required.
Geva makes it simple to enjoy a complete night out! Open 2 hours before most performances, Godot’s Bar offers full bar service, and The Kitchen at Geva offers a light menu including salads, sandwiches and desserts.
To save time, you’re welcome to place your intermission order before the show begins. Please note: starting 30 minutes before showtime, we will only accept intermission pre-orders from the full kitchen menu. During intermission, a limited selection of kitchen items, desserts, and beverages – including our full bar – will be available.
Please note that our bar & kitchen are closed on non-performance weeks.
