Synopsis: Charles Dickens’ holiday classic returns to the Geva stage in a new adaptation by Playwright in Residence Harrison David Rivers. Over the course of a single night, notorious grump Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by four ghosts. But will their intervention prompt him to change his “humbug” ways? Filled with humor, heart, hope – and a little bit of horror – A Christmas Carol reminds us that it is never too late to have a change of heart.
- EBENEZER SCROOGE (Any Ethnicity, Male-identifying, 50-60s) A man of business. Incredibly wealthy, but frugal. Miserly even. Personal loss has made him hard. He will be cracked open by play’s end.
- BOB CRATCHIT (Any Ethnicity, Male-identifying, 30-50s) SCROOGE’S clerk. A devoted husband and father. Long-suffering and compliant. He will stand up to his employer by play’s end.
- FRED HOLYWELL (Any Ethnicity, Male-identifying, 20-30s) SCROOGE’S nephew and only living relative. A doting husband. Playful and generous. His persistence will be rewarded by play’s end. Also plays FEZZIWIG and THE GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT / AS CAST.

Geva Theatre, a LORT B regional theatre in the heart of Rochester, New York, seeks an experienced and collaborative Technical Director to join its production team.
The Technical Director leads the scene shop in supporting the director’s and designer’s vision related to the construction and procurement of all scenic elements within the allotted time, budget, and scope of resources. Also responsible for managing scene shop employees and maintain Geva’s core values of artistic courage, sustainability, excellence, boundless hospitality, empathy, and anti-racism and inclusion.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership & Supervision
– Manage and support the personnel in the scene shop to promote a safe, healthy, and productive working environment. - When required, hire full-time and temporary or overhire staff to ensure quality work in the scene shop.
- Collaborate with design team and other production departments to establish methods for the design, construction and procurement of all scenic elements of Geva productions.
- Consult with designers and production department members on any issues that arise during the production process which pertain to any areas of responsibility.
Manage Scenery Construction & Install Process
- Manage the scene shop in procuring, creating, building and maintaining scenic elements, for both performance and rehearsal, so that the productions can be built, installed, and struck by shop employees in a timely, safe, and resource efficient manner.
- Generate technical drawings, including ground plans, construction drawings.
- Proactively plan and foster communication on upcoming shows with all relevant personnel.
- With Production Manager, review/revise budget estimates for each production by tracking all relevant information through the rehearsal reports and ensuring these requests match the allocated budget and resource, as given to you by the Production Manager
- In collaboration with the Production Manager and other Department Heads, prepare and review a build, load-in, and strike schedule for each production based on the available staff labor and the calendar issued by Production Management.
- Communicate the design and technical information to scene shop employees and other departments so the productions can be built and installed in a safe, timely, and resource efficient manner.
- Monitor and oversee the progress of technical drawings for all scenic elements based on the designer drawings so they can be built by the shop staff or vendors.
- With Production Manager, collaborate and lead the build and install of any external build projects taken on by Geva.
Shop Maintenance
- Organize and prepare information for daily maintenance of the scene shop.
- Manage stock and common areas to ensure safety and security.
- Collaborate with Production Manager and ATD to ensure materials are purchased in a timely and resource efficient manner, and correctly allocated to various budgets.
- Work with the scene shop staff to maintain an inventory of materials and a safe working environment for the scene shop employees so they may work safely and efficiently.
Administration
- Work with Production Manager to manage budget to ensure effective use of financial and personnel resources.
- Project expenses and manage expenses on a per-show basis.
- Analyze and monitor production and scene shop budgets. Prepare purchase orders and budget reports as required.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to determine and implement archival systems about each production for future reference.
- Actively participate in future initiatives relating to best theatre practice and initiatives.

- Demonstrated leadership experience in similar scaled, related positions, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.

The Costume Shop Supervisor leads the costume shop in supporting the director’s and designer’s vision related to the construction and procurement of all costumes within the allotted timeframe, budget, and scope of staff capacity and resources. RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, manage and supervise the costume shop staff: Cutter/Draper, First Hand, and Costume Shop Assistant; as well as the Wardrobe Supervisor, Wig Supervisor, and any necessary craftspeople and overhire.

Collaboration & Support with Design Teams

Geva Theatre, a LORT B regional theatre in the heart of Rochester, NY with an annual operating budget of $8.5 million, seeks a dynamic and experienced Grants Manager to oversee all phases of the grant process.
This position reports to the Director of Development and serves as an integral member of the Development Team. The Grants Manager will research new grant funding opportunities including foundation, state and federal grants to support the programs and mission of Geva Theatre.
The Grants Manager will be responsible for achieving budgeted goals in all areas of contributed revenue including government, foundation and other special projects requiring grant support.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Work with Director of Development to set annual grant goals.
- Identify grant opportunities from private and government funders.
- Oversee cycle of grant applications ensuring accuracy, adherence with grant application due dates, organizational values alignment, and reporting/contract deliverables timelines.
- Compile and write grant documents, review budgets, edit application materials and submit on time as outlined in RFP documents.
- Write proposal narratives, including needs-case statements, project descriptions, program outcomes, etc.
- Serve as a liaison between Geva Theatre executive leadership and applicable stakeholders.
- Collaborate with finance and program departments for data and program description needs.
- Conduct prospect research for potential funders including state and federal. Research any Board of Trustees connections with foundation boards or government representatives and engage when beneficial.
- Expand Geva’s annual grant funding base to ensure organizational stability in a post-pandemic environment, as outlined in Geva’s newly adopted Strategic Framework.

Geva Theatre, a LORT B regional theatre in the heart of Rochester, NY with an annual operating budget of $8.5 million, seeks an experienced and collaborative Director of Connectivity (Education, Engagement, and Theatre Accessibility programs) to join its senior leadership team.
The Director of Connectivity will create and lead arts education and engagement initiatives and programs that engage, enrich, and expand access to transformational theatre experiences throughout the Greater Rochester communities. Key programs will include leading our annual Summer Academy, Student Matinee Series and Mondays at Geva, building and maintaining partnerships with a wide array of key local partners and educators, as well as engagement surrounding the shows in our season. The Director of Connectivity will build upon a strong foundation while evaluating existing programs and working with the team to envision and pilot new programs in alignment with the goals of Geva’s Strategic Plan.
As a member of the senior management team, reporting to the Artistic Director, the Director of Connectivity will participate in big picture thinking around both daily challenges and opportunities and the institution’s future. They will work closely with the entire Artistic Team, including the General Manager, Resident Director/Associate Producer, Literary Manager, and Education and Engagement team, and also serve on the Curation Team
Responsibilities:
The Director of Connectivity (Education and Engagement) will lead Education, Engagement and Theatre Accessibility programs, balancing the mission, vision, values, financial needs and strategic goals of the organization. Specific responsibilities include:
- Lead Geva’s annual Summer Academy, the pre-eminent conservatory style summer training programming in the region
- Oversee the company’s Student Matinee Series and Discovery Guides, working with schools, teachers and the city to make the program go smoothly, meeting the city’s requirements for the free admission funded by the city while also meeting sales goals for the paid student matinee groups.
- Pilot new Education programs, to include a workshop series and additional school break camps, balancing the mission, vision, values, financial needs and strategic goals of the organization.
- Lead Geva’s Engagement Programs, including Mondays at Geva, while assessing new opportunities to partner within Rochester’s multiple communities.
- Oversee Geva’s Accessibility Programs, including ASL interpreted, captioned and audio described performances, and plans for sensory friendly performances in future years.
- Lead multiple partnerships around the Rochester area, to expand Geva’s Engagement and Education programming
- Along with the Artistic Director, Resident Director/Associate Producer, Artists in Residence and Literary Manager, the Director of Connectivity will be part of the Curation team, planning programming and partnerships for Geva.
- Manage the Education and Engagement Staff
- Manage the department financial modeling and budgeting, working with the Executive Director, General Manager, and Comtroller as well as Artistic Director
- Convene and facilitate the Engagement and Education Committees

Geva Theatre, a LORT B regional theatre in the heart of Rochester, NY with an annual operating budget of $8.5 million, seeks an experienced Human Resources (HR) and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access and Anti-Racism (IDEA) Manager to lead our efforts in these critical areas.
Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the senior leadership team, this new, full-time exempt position will play a crucial role in building, managing, and advancing the organization’s HR processes and functions. The position will administer benefits, process payroll, ensure compliance with employment laws, and oversee IDEA strategy and training.
Key Responsibilities:
1 – Recruitment and Talent Management:
- Develop inclusive recruitment strategies to attract diverse talent and manage the recruitment process.
- Ensure fair and unbiased hiring practices and support employee development and career growth.
- Oversee onboarding processes to create a welcoming and accessible experience for new hires.
2 – Employee Relations and Engagement:
- Foster a positive work environment by enhancing employee engagement and satisfaction.
- Address complex employee relations issues, including conflict resolution and disciplinary actions.
- Conduct surveys and feedback sessions to monitor employee morale and implement improvements.
3 – IDEA Strategy Development and Implementation:

- Ensure compliance with New York State and federal employment laws and regulations.

Geva Theatre, a professional regional theatre in Rochester, NY with LORT B & D stages, seeks qualified run crew members for three shows during the first half of our 2024/2025 season. We are looking to hire stagehands, follow spot operators, A2s, wardrobe crew and production assistants. Each of the three shows on our fall schedule will require approximately a 6-8 week commitment.
The primary responsibility will be attending all technical rehearsals and performances (8 shows a week) for each production. Performances are weeknights, weekend afternoons and weekend evenings. Crew calls involve any necessary preshow set up and post show restore for the position assigned.
Candidates must have demonstrated skill in the area they are applying for and at least some experience in the live professional theatre. Pay rate is $15.50 per hour depending on experience. These are ideal jobs for early career candidates or recent college graduates. We are particularly interested in candidates from the greater Rochester area.

Geva Theatre, a LORT B&D regional leader in Western New York, seeks applicants for part time production positions including: Backstage Run Crew, Follow Spot Operator, Wardrobe Run Crew, Scenic Carpenter, Scenic Artist, Props Artisan, Stitcher, Costume Crafts, Light and Sound Board Operators, Lighting and Audio Technicians. Under the supervision of the applicable Production department head, job duties will include the construction, maintenance and/or operation of various production elements. The ideal candidate will be diligent, organized, collaborative, positive and professional. Positions are on a part-time, “show-by-show” basis and will require evening and weekend work hours. Casting
Geva is a member of the League of Resident Theatres and works under an agreement with Actors Equity Association (AEA), the union of professional actors and stage managers. By agreement, most (but not all) adult actors are required to be members of AEA.
General auditions for both union and non-union actors are held annually, prior to the beginning of each new season, at which time local actors are invited to present monologues and/or songs.
Local non-union casting is conducted in Rochester by Geva’s artistic staff. Please check this space for further information about any and all local casting calls.
