Rochester, N.Y., February 8, 2010 – Geva's production of Underneath the Lintel by Glen Berger begins its previews this evening and runs in the Nextstage through March 7. Underneath the Lintel features a sole character, a librarian, who embarks on a quest to find out who anonymously returned a library book that is 113 years overdue. This quest takes him on a scavenger hunt across five continents and dozens of cities to discover if the borrower is alive.

To coincide with this compelling show, Geva Theatre Center has partnered with the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County to organize Rochester’s first ever Book Amnesty Day on February 12. On that day, patrons may donate a new or gently used book to the Central Library on 115 South Avenue and receive a credit of $1 per book for overdue fines up to a total credit of $15 (excluding lost books or collection agency accounts). The books collected will benefit the Rochester Literacy Movement, the Rochester Public Library and branch libraries book give-away projects.

At lunchtime on February 12, actor Daniel Pearce who plays the Librarian will be on hand at the Central Library to talk about the play, his role and to give library staff and patrons a taste of what they can expect to see when they attend a performance of Underneath the Lintel.

For that evening's performances of Underneath the Lintel at 7pm and Almost, Maine at 8pm, Geva will offer patrons who present their Monroe County Library Systems card 50% off of the price of a gourmet cookie in the Geva Cafe.

Underneath the Lintel opened on February 5 and runs in the Nextstage through March 7.
